Some reflections, as usual…
Weird Science. I’m surprising myself with the interest I have in science and research. Considering I had to take biology twice in high school because I found it beyond boring, I guess I’m proof that we’re all works in progress.
Yay for YA! I didn’t think it would be possible for me to find too many “literary” YA titles, but I was proven wrong. On Twitter one day, I expressed how frustrating it was to rate a YA title, claiming that 5 stars on Goodreads for a YA novel was more like 4 on a traditional title. Well, that led to my getting several recommendations for new YA titles.
There’s Magic in the Middle. I have zero reasons to read middle grades books. Okay, I have a kid going into middle school next year, but the middle grades books I’m reading are definitely not the titles he would be choosing. I’m just reading them because they’re good. And yes, I know they are below my reading level. I don’t care.
I Don’t Suffer Fools -- or Books. Only one of the books on my list this marking period was one that I felt “dragged” or that I had to “grit my teeth” to finish. If it had been a hard copy book and not an audiobook, I might have abandoned it, but I’m happy with my choices, overall.
Finding the Balance. I felt as if the range of books I selected represented my interests, but it also showed me how I am able to diversify my book choices and select a variety of titles.
Looking forward to a new marking period -- and to enjoying lots of new books!
